It isn't that difficult to switching one’s old e-mail account to Gmail provided one wants to. Just, follow the steps below:
Importing mail
Old email messages may now be taken over by Gmail, if not deleted from the mail server.
How does one go about doing it?
1- Move to Settings and then to Accounts. Check other mail accounts. Then, click the “Add a POP3 of one’s mail account.
2- Enter the email address of the concerned account to be switched over.
3- Now, enter the password for the email account that you want to migrate, together with the provider’s POP server, name and port number.
4- Deciding on other settings
a- Deleting previous e-mail messages off of your old account. Only when Gmail accepts them.
b- Use SSL to check new texts.
c- One may label incoming messages.
d- You can do archiving of received texts.
5- Pres on the icon Add Account .
6- Then press “Yes” for setting up a custom and “No” if otherwise.
7- Examine the mail fetch history to know your messages are being migrated. Move now to Settings- Accounts. See mail from other accounts and then click on "View history.
Migrating contacts
A few handful of contacts in your old e-mail account may be entered manually in Gmail, but large number of contacts will require exporting to a CSV file. For a handful of contacts certain operations are required.
a- In the above upper-left hand side select “Contacts”.
b- Press the “More” button and choose “Import.”
c- Click on the “Select file” icon to leaf through the sites of your CSV file. Next click on “Import.”
Before removing the old email account...
If you are paying for your old e-mail account, then you might as well keep it open for a while, unless you are cock sure that you’ve upgraded and revised all online accounts with the new Gmail address.
It is advisable to set up an auto responder for a short period of time. This will alert your contacts that you've switched e-mail providers. Provided, you want selected contacts know. You may always send en-bloc e-mail to just the people you want to inform.
