The Wall Street Journal cites executives at Asian suppliers saying the software giant has asked them to ship components which can probably be used in a smartwatch type of device.
One executive even said to WSJ of had met R&D team of Microsoft in Redmond, Washington. However, it is not clear to the executive whether the tech titan is seeking to produce a touch-enabled watch device with it.
Few years ago Microsoft poured big money in similar devices partnering with popular watchmakers such as Suunto, Swatch and Fossil. However, the project was put to stop in 2008. Then each unit of smartwatch was to cost about $800.
The New York Times reported earlier this year Apple was rumored to be working on similar wrist-worn technology run on iOS operating system and to feature curved glass. Bloomberg added about 100 people are put on work in the company on such project.
Even, earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) visitors came across several such hybrid technology wrist watches. Let's hope soon we may witness commercial version of the portable-wearable device.
